Privacy policy

Last updated 31 October 2026

In short

  • We collect only what we need to run your account, keep the site safe and improve it.
  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • Free pages show Google ads, which use cookies. You can turn off personalised ads at any time.
  • You can see, correct or delete your data, and delete your account from your account page.

1. Who we are

RevisionPapers (revisionpapers.com, and our mobile app) is an online study platform for secondary school learners and teachers in Uganda, offering past papers, revision notes, quizzes and short courses. It is operated by RevisionPapers. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written to meet Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 and its Regulations. Where visitors from other countries use the site, we also respect the rights their local laws give them, such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form), whether you are a learner or teacher, and, if you choose to add them, your class, school, district, phone number and a short bio.
  • Sign in with Google: if you use it, Google shares your name, email address, profile photo and a Google account identifier, and confirms your email is verified. We never receive your Google password.
  • Payments: when you buy Premium, payment is handled by our payment provider, Flutterwave. We receive and keep the amount, currency, plan, a transaction reference and the payment status, and your phone number for Mobile Money. We do not receive or store your card number or Mobile Money PIN.
  • Things you post: questions, answers and replies in the community, files you share in the library, and messages you send us.

Information collected when you use the site

  • Learning activity: quiz attempts and scores, course progress and certificates, saved items, and the files you download.
  • Visit statistics: the page visited, the site that referred you, your device type (phone, tablet or computer) and country. To count daily visitors without cookies we use a code made from your IP address and browser that changes every day and cannot be used to identify you.
  • Download and security records: when a file is downloaded we record the file, the time, your IP address and country, to prevent abuse and count downloads.
  • AI tutor: the questions you ask the AI tutor and its answers, with the class, subject and topic you chose and the tool you used. If you are signed in, they are saved as chats in your account so you can reopen, print, rename, pin or delete them. We use them to run the chat, count daily limits, check quality and look into answers reported as wrong.
  • Share buttons: which share button was tapped and on which page, without recording who tapped it.
  • Server logs: like all websites, our servers record technical information such as IP address, browser type and error messages, which we use to keep the site running and secure.

3. How we use your information

  • To provide the service you ask for: your account, dashboard, downloads, quizzes, courses, certificates and Premium. (Basis: performing our agreement with you.)
  • To keep the platform safe: preventing spam, fraud, abuse, unauthorised downloads and invalid advertising traffic, and moderating the community. (Basis: our legitimate interests and legal obligations.)
  • To improve RevisionPapers: understanding which subjects, papers and pages are most useful. (Basis: legitimate interests; statistics are aggregated.)
  • To communicate with you: account emails such as password resets and payment receipts, and replies to your messages. We send newsletters only if you agree, and you can unsubscribe at any time. (Basis: agreement and consent.)
  • To show advertising that keeps most of the site free, as explained below. (Basis: consent where the law requires it, otherwise legitimate interests.)
  • To meet legal obligations, such as tax and accounting records for payments.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

5. Advertising (Google AdSense)

Free pages on RevisionPapers show ads served by Google AdSense. Premium members do not see ads.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
  • If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you.

Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services and how Google uses cookies in advertising. We do not control the cookies Google or other advertisers set, and we are not responsible for the content of third-party ads. If you see an ad that seems inappropriate for learners, please tell us.

6. Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who run parts of the service for us under contract: our web hosting company; Cloudflare (file storage and delivery); Google (advertising, analytics, sign-in, and the Gemini service that writes the AI tutor’s answers: we send only your question, the conversation so far and the topic’s syllabus and notes, never your name or email, and we use Google’s paid service, under which questions are not used to train Google’s models); Flutterwave (payments); and our email provider. They may use the data only to provide their service.
  • Other members, only for what you choose to make public: your name and school on community posts and on files you share.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
  • A new owner, if RevisionPapers is ever sold or merged, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your data.

7. Storage and international transfers

Some of our providers store data on servers outside Uganda, for example in the European Union or the United States. When this happens we use providers that protect personal data to a standard at least equivalent to Ugandan law, as the Data Protection and Privacy Act requires.

8. How long we keep information

  • Account data: for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account we remove or anonymise your personal details within 30 days.
  • Payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
  • Visit statistics: up to 400 days, then deleted automatically.
  • Download and security records: up to 12 months, unless needed to investigate abuse.
  • AI tutor chats (signed in): kept in your account until you delete them (one at a time, or all of them by deleting your account).
  • AI tutor questions from visitors who are not signed in: 12 months, then deleted automatically. They are linked only to a scrambled code, not to a name.
  • Community posts and shared files: until you or we remove them. If you delete your account they stay on the site under the name “Deleted user”, so that discussions still make sense; you can ask us to remove them.

9. Security

We protect data with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls, signed and time-limited download links, and regular updates. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use elsewhere. If a data breach puts your rights at risk, we will notify you and the Personal Data Protection Office as the law requires.

10. Children and young learners

The AI tutor is set to stay on school topics, to refuse unsafe or unrelated requests, and never to ask for personal details. We ask learners not to type personal information into it. Our administrators may read saved questions and answers to check quality and safety, and to handle reports.

RevisionPapers is made for secondary school learners and their teachers, and is not directed at children under 13. Many of our users are under 18. We collect as little as possible about learners: a name and email are enough to create an account, and other details are optional. Learners under 18 should have permission from a parent or guardian before creating an account or paying for Premium. A parent or guardian may contact us to see, correct or delete their child’s information.

11. Your rights and choices

Subject to the law, you have the right to:

  • be told what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy;
  • have inaccurate data corrected (most of it you can change yourself on your account page);
  • have your data deleted: you can delete your account from your account page at any time;
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your data, including for direct marketing;
  • withdraw consent you have given, without affecting what was done before.

To use any of these rights, email hello@revisionpapers.com. We will reply within 30 days and may ask you to confirm your identity. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to Uganda’s Personal Data Protection Office, or to the data protection authority in your country.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service or the law changes. We will change the “Last updated” date above and, for important changes, tell signed-in members by email or a notice on the site.

13. Contact us

For questions about this policy or your personal data, contact us at hello@revisionpapers.com. You can also use our contact page.
